How Ironic: Obama, Phelps and drugs

I just recently read about the hubbub over Michael Phelps being caught doing drugs. It is truly very sad reading about a man that many young people idealize failing and sinning so publicly. Yet the “anointed one”, Barack Obama, who so many look to be the one to lead the U.S. into the Liberal Promised Land, had a similar and probably worse moral failing. The idealized current president of the United States admitted to cocaine and marijuana abuse and yet is perceived by many millions as the moral leader of the free world, while a wonderful athlete is vilified for a lesser abuse. Is there any irony here? Is there a double standard? Decide for yourself.

  1. Adel,

Of course there is a double standard. There was a double standard for GW with his substance abuse problems. P-BO can do no wrong. How will he be able to continue the federal govt war on the evils of tobacco while lighting up in the oval office? It’s too bad Michael Phelps screwed up, but hopefully he can use it as a platform to influence others for good.

  2. Your blog seems really judgemental. It saddens me to think that you clain to represent Jesus, your words are filled with anger. People sin, Jesus died to forgive those sins and yet, you seem to think people must be perfect.

  4. Craig — thank you for your comment and I don’t know why this picture comes up for you. You might want to check out your blogspot account?

Mary — I am sorry that you get the impression of judgmentalism. In this post I am pointing out the hypocrisy and inconsistency of journalistic reporting. When it is an individual that they wish to promote because they hold similar political ideologies there is a different type of reporting. I would point you to previous blog entries on the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ for my Reformed views.

  5. I did and there is no picture there, it shows up elsewhere as well. Just one of those wired things. Not that it matters, but I most definably look like either the picture or Yeltsin.

  6. Should be neither
